History
Founded in the middle of the XIth century at the foot of its fortress, the town of Château-Renault grew exponentially during the XIXth century with the rapid expansion of the tanning industry, giving birth to the City of the Leather, a working-class town of mono industry reconverted since 1960 into a number of industrial and small-scale activities.

Château-Renault concentrates the services, trades and industries of north-east Touraine :
- labour pool in the tertiary (services, trades, tradesmen, health, social, teaching) and industrial sectors (industrial sheet metal manufacture, floor covering, cardboard industry, precision mechanical engineering, electronic components, chemicals, printing works).
